Design Challenge: Update a tiny condo bath to be more spacious and bright without enlarging the footprint - and make it Green.

Solution: Fixtures and furnishing were chosen with the size of the room in mind, including a custom-designed 18" deep vanity cabinet. Lighter colors and a nearly monochromatic color palette create the feel of more space and openness. Sustainable elements - in addition to Green demolition and construction practices - include the vanity cabinet, the quartz countertop and shower trim, water-efficient plumbing fixtures, and the recycled glass LED light above the mirror.

The Unexpected: Once work started on this 5’ x 7’6” post-war condo bath, we discovered that every wall - exterior and interior - was solid cinder block. All our plans to move plumbing and electrical and anything else inside the walls had to be abandoned. Unplanned soffits and ledges had to be built around pipes and conduit that ran outside the walls, and the shower niche had to literally be carved out of the block. Yet, with patience and flexibility, this jewel of a bath emerged.
