Design Challenge: Redesign a kitchen recycling everything possible.
Solution: Recently remodeled by previous owners, the small kitchen didn’t function well for the new owners. We reworked the footprint and the work triangle – without moving walls – increasing the efficiency and giving it a more modern look and feel.
We reused all but one cabinet, and both the floor and backsplash tile. We replaced appliances with lighter more energy-efficient models, added one small cabinet between the fridge and pantry, replaced dark countertops with lighter quartz material, and installed a recycled glass mosaic backsplash above the new cooktop. More even and efficient recessed lighting replaced an outdated single ceiling fixture.
And for bonus recycling points, the unused cabinet and the old countertops were reused in a basement utility space.
